Fee increase is too high. The structure that is being proposed is problematic. Poor use of the funds. Most of the work was related to putting on career fairs, this is where they have seen improvement. But the programs that are proposed don’t seem to have a lot of support or interest from students. The opinion poll data was not strong in favor of programs that are being proposed (45% is not even half). Having more events is not necessarily the need; it’s unclear on how they are advertising their events. The services are not as essential to students everyday life, as TAPS is. There are aspects of what is being proposed that could be implemented now. In comparison to the SFAC applications that were submitted by the Career Center, the costs are less in the proposals than what the referenda is asking for.

should give them more money. It would have been helpful to know whether the platforms have been engaged in pilot programs so we could know more about how students find the products.

Recommendation: we have a mixed support comment. The Career Center is very important service but we are not certain whether this is the best use of student fees. Other ideas: correct use of taxing students.
- Adam moves to write a statement with a mixed support comment.
Katie seconds the motion. No objections. c. Student Government Fee Increase - result of strawpoll, unanimous in support Issue a statement in support of Student Government Fee

d. Student Success Hub Fee - result of strawpoll, inconclusive

The fee loops in graduate students and there will likely not be too much support from graduate students for the fee. Because the fee would be implemented in the future, and it’s a renovation, and there’s a loan, it is difficult to contextualize. It’s hard to make a decision. Question regarding whether the programs will not expand if the referenda doesn’t pass. Depends on student needs and what spaces may be available in the future. Important to have a welcoming and permanent space for the Cove. Important to have more student spaces on the campus, especially with lack of lounges for students. Support given that the issues of mental health and basic needs are critical to students, and helps to create sustainable programs with physical space. Discussion regarding what happens if the referenda doesn’t pass. Adam motions to table this item until after the Regents meeting, to see if the item passes at the Regents meeting. Viggy seconds the motion. No objections.
- Funding Call
a. #43: SOAR Leadership Training
i.
ii.
SOAR responded to the inquiry on whether the proposal is for new workshops or to increase the number of existing workshops that are offered that are required for student orgs to attend. The response is that these are new workshops. Adam motions to not fund. Katie seconds the motion. No objections.
b. #16: Learning Support Services

Adam summarizes that the biggest question he had from the discussion yesterday, he is wondering about the need for TutorTrac system. Adam supports the funding for the tutors. Chase mentions that the priorities are very interesting, the system is prioritized over the salaries for the tutors. Katie says that the proposal explains how the current system is taking away from being able to serve students. Regina mentions that TutorTrac could help with planning, so tutors can plan appropriately for their sessions.
vi.
Juliana motions to earmark $80,000 for one-year of tutor salaries, supplies and expense, and three-years of TutorTrac. Adam seconds the motion. No objections.
c. #29: Cruz Hacks
i. ii. iii.
The item was tabled from yesterday’s meeting due to a tie. Discussion regarding what the funding will be used for. Adam motions to fully fund $2,500. Juliana seconds the motion. No objections.
d. #42
From Sustainability to Educational Equity: Fostering Community-Engaged Research
for UCSC Students.
i.
ii.
Response from the unit: GSR does not received tuition offset in summer. The program is in the summer. Adam motions to earmark $21,500 for summer 2019 for undergraduate student employees and graduate student employee, conference expenses, and all of the program materials and student travel. Juliana seconds the motion. No objections.
e. #50: Youth Participatory Action Research with UCSC Undergraduates and High
School Students
i. ii.

v.
Response from the unit: GSR does not receive tuition offset in summer. The impact for the groups that are mentioned seems important, but it doesn’t seem very UCSC student focused. Actual impact on current UCSC students is limited, even though purpose is for the good of the community that would be serviced. Is this a research project? The undergrads, grads and high school students are working on a research project together. Focus is on historically disadvantaged high school students. Questions: what is the role of the undergrad student who is receiving compensation? Role of grad student who is receiving compensation. Is any portion of the request for the grad student payroll? (we may need to use 19900 funds?). Summer support is in the budget, but we didn’t read about summer in the proposal. Are the undergrad students who are receiving the stipends, also receiving academic credit? Adam motions to table. Juliana seconds the motion. No objections.
- Adjournment
a. Adam motion to adjourn. Viggy seconds the motion. Motion carries.
